The first step in manufacturing a diamond jewelry is to give it to a cleaver or sawyer. They both, essentially, perform the same task: That is to cut--or cleave--the diamond studs in two pieces in order to bring out the best profile that will determine the end product of the stone.
While the weight of a unique engagement ring is important, it doesnt necessarily provide the "perceived size" of a diamond studs. A shallow cut diamond will have a greater diameter, and will therefore look larger.
